Catalysis is the reaction that undergoes by using a catalyst which can minimize the rate of reaction. Also it can reduce the unwanted substances usage by which we can get a product with low cost. Catalyst may be of several kinds generally metal catalyst is mostly used in reactions. We can also use the catalyst in very small amounts which have economical importance. It can alter the rate of reaction so that the energy barrier is decreased.

Biological catalysts are the enzymes which are participated mostly in metabolic reactions. Here also most of the reactions are regulated by the concentrate of enzyme. Means a single enzyme regulates the entire metabolic cycle (Catabolic as well as anabolic). If this regulation is not clear then the energy that is needed for the reaction must be wasted which is called futile cycle.

According to second law of Thermodynamics entropy increases in a favored reaction, entropy is wasted energy in that it can’t be used to carry out work. If the catabolism/anabolism which is not under the regulation is not at all useful for further reactions in turns it utilizes the cells energy.

In this way catalysis plays a vital role not only in chemical reactions but also in biological system also.
